Risk Assessing

As part of managing the health and safety of your business you must control the risks in your workplace. To do this you need to think about what might cause harm to people and decide whether you are taking reasonable steps to prevent that harm. This is known as risk assessment and it is something you are required by law to carry out.

A risk assessment is not about creating huge amounts of paperwork , but rather about identifying sensible measures to control the risks in your workplace. You are probably already taking steps to protect your employees, but your risk assessment will help you decide whether you have covered all you need to.

We will:

  • Review current safety management systems resources, to ensure safe systems of work
  • Workplace inspection to identify any common workplace hazards and undertake workforce consultations, as a means of performing a gap analysis
  • Recommend appropriate and where applicable legally required control actions

Some key examples of frequently identified workplace risk include:

Chemical and Hazardous Substances Management

Our most popular services include:

  • Risk Assessments and developing Safe Work

Fatigue Management

Fatigue needs to be recognised and properly managed in all workplaces, especially high-risk work environments, so to avoid the risk of accidents and injuries. Recovery Partners are experienced in developing customised strategies and ways to manage fatigue and consider the following relevant issues at your workplace:

  • Relevant codes, regulations, permit and licence requirements related to fatigue management

Working Remotely

For instance, when your employee works from home, their home becomes ‘a place of work’ and you must ensure their health and safety and that of others. The same risks that are present in the usual place of work, can be present in someone’s home. The obligations for safety are no less than if they were working on the company premises.

We strongly recommend a written Working Remotely Agreement be made to assist you meet IR law as well as WHS law.

A Working Remotely Assessment will help you:

  • Identify risks – both physical and psychological
  • Work out a plan to eliminate or control them
  • Suggest guidelines for a successful working from home arrangement.

Contractor Management

By far – the worst managed risk we see in most organisations is Contractor Management. This is a combination of not understanding legal safety obligations by both the organisation engaging the contractor and the contractors themselves.

Let us show you how to:

  • Develop Contractor Management procedures and tools
  • Scrutinise contractors prior to engaging them
  • Induct contractors
  • Monitor contractors activities
  • Create an Approved Contractor Management Register
  • Understand how to manage contractors using the same risk management principles as any other risk.

We also have an online solution to contractor management. Ask us how!
