This Hazard Inspections and Observations Procedure provides direction on ways to meet your obligations in identifying hazards and implementing controls before incidents can occur.
Direction is given on conducting formal workplace hazard inspections using a provided checklist with common hazards pre-populated.
There are 3 checklists included with the procedure to cater for different organisations buying it. The 3 checklist types are:
- Administration Checklist – suitable for office environments. Hazards include slips and trips, electrical hazards, emergency management, first aid and more.
- Construction Checklist – suitable for construction sites. Hazards include working at heights, plant and equipment, confined spaces, chemicals, scaffold etc.
- General Facility Checklist – suitable for business that have an office and another area e.g. warehouse, production, manufacturing types of operations. This includes plant and equipment, racking and mobile plant like forklifts.
The procedure also includes a Safe Work Observation Form and outlines a simple but effective way to demonstrate monitoring of high risk tasks and consultation. It is designed to be used openly and transparently, usually by a supervisor.
- Safe Work Observation Form – This prompts the discussion and consultative approach when observing a worker completing the task. It considers manual handling, any written instructions on the task like a Safe Work procedure and general environmental hazards in the immediate area.
