This Return to Work (RTW) Program has been developed to meet all Australian state workers compensation law requirements. The procedure is 17 pages long and features the following:

  • Process and procedure
  • Injured workers responsibilities
  • Injured workers rights
  • Employers responsibilities
  • Return to Work Coordinator responsibilities
  • Insurance company responsibilities
  • Treating doctor responsibilities
  • Notification of injury to insurer
  • Return to Work Plan guidelines
  • Dispute resolution
  • Agreement sign off area to be signed by the Employer and the Employees representative

 

The RTW Program also refers to five forms which are included:

  • Worker letter initial time loss – this letter is to be sent by the employer to the injured worker and advises who their Return to Work Coordinator is and where to seek advice.
  • Initial Nominated Treated Doctor (NTD) letter – this letter can be faxed to the NTD and introduces the Return to Work Coordinator and asks five important questions to assist in the injured workers Return to Work Plan.
  • Information consent form – this form is completed by the injured worker and authorises the Return to Work Coordinator to access information from a range of practitioners including the doctor, WorkCover, specialists, etc. to avoid breaching privacy laws and enabling the speediest recovery to work.
  • Return to Work Plan template – this template ensures all legally required information is captured and that the most relevant pieces of best practice information are required to facilitate a speedy return to work for the injured worker.
  • Case Notes template – this is a simple one page template to record communications and actions taken involving all stakeholders in the return to work program. It can be used as evidence that all actions taken were done in the best intentions of returning the injured worker to work as swiftly as possible.
